The State of Pennsylvania was the name in official use until the adoption of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (28 Sep 1776); it was first documented in a resolution (25 Jul 1776) of the Convention for approval and support of the Declaration of Independence of 4 Jul 1776, and featured in several ordinnances and in "A Declaration of Rights of the Inhabitants of the State of Pennsylvania" (16 Aug 1776).
