9 Sep 1850 - 6 Jan 1912 Territory of New Mexico
20 Jun 1910 the people of the territories of New Mexico and Arizona are authorized to form constitutions and state governments in accordance with an act of the Congress of the United States (passed by the House of Representatives on 17 Jan 1910; Senate on 16 Jun 1910 with amendments, House concurs in the amendments on 18 Jun 1910), signed into law on 20 Jun 1910 (Statutes at Large, 36:557-579) [3]
21 Nov 1910 the Constitution of the State of New Mexico is adopted and signed by the President and Secretary of the Convention at a session held in Santa Fe on 21 Nov 1910, pending the ratification by the people of New Mexico and approval by Congress and President of the United States (New Mexico Constitutional Convention 1910, p. 252)
6 Feb 1911 the Constitution of the State of New Mexico is ratified by the people of New Mexico at an election held on 21 Jan 1911, the results of which were certified by a canvassing board on 6 Feb 1911 (United States Congressional Serial Set, 61st Congress, 3d session, House of Representatives, Document No. 1369, pp. 5-6)
21 Aug 1911 the admission of New Mexico and Arizona to the Union is agreed upon, subject to the fulfillment of certain conditions including the amending of the states' constitutions, in accordance with a joint resolution of the Congress of the United States (passed by the House of Representatives on 23 May 1911; Senate on 8 Aug 1911 with amendments, House concurs in the amendments on 10 Aug 1911), approved by the President of the United States on 21 Aug 1911 (Statutes at Large, 37:39-43) [4]
30 Dec 1911 the Constitution of the State of New Mexico as amended is ratified by the people of New Mexico at an election held on 7 Nov 1911, the results of which were certified by proclamation issued by the Governor of the Territory of New Mexico on 30 Dec 1911 (Santa Fe New Mexican, No. 276, 3 Jan 1912, p. 7)
6 Jan 1912 New Mexico is admitted to the United States in accordance with the Act of Congress approved on 21 Aug 1911, taking effect upon the issuance of a proclamation by the President of the United States on 6 Jan 1912 (Statutes at Large, 37:1723-1724)
6 Jan 1912 the Constitution of the State of New Mexico comes into operation on 6 Jan 1912, the date of admission of New Mexico into the Union as appointed by Section 1 of Article XXII (Schedule) of the Constitution (New Mexico Constitution 1910, p. 38)

Full title: An Act proposing to the State of Texas the Establishment of her Northern and Western Boundaries, the Relinquishment by the said State of all Territory claimed by her exterior to said Boundaries, and of all her Claims upon the United States and to establish a territorial Government for New Mexico.
  2. The Territory of New Mexico, created under federal law, included the former Department of Nuevo México, and parts of Alta California and Texas.

Full title: An Act to enable the people of New Mexico to form a constitution and State government and be admitted into the Union on an equal footing with the original States; and to enable the people of Arizona to form a constitution and State government and be admitted into the Union on an equal footing with the original States.
  4. Full title: Joint Resolution To admit the Territories of New Mexico and Arizona as States into the Union upon an equal footing with the original States.
