- King was elected President of the Constitutional Convention on 11 Oct 1819 and served while it was in session until 29 Oct 1819 and during the adjourned sitting (5 Jan 1820 - 7 Jan 1820). An act of the General Court of Massachusetts of 19 Jun 1819 and a provision in the Schedule to the Constitution of Maine assigned executive authority to the President of the Convention, which he exercised from 15 Mar 1820 until his swearing-in as Governor on 1 Jun 1820.
