  1. Following the death of Enoch Lincoln on 8 Oct 1829, the functions of Governor devolved on President of the Senate Nathan Cutler. On 13 Jan 1830, Joshua Hall was elected President of the Senate, but Cutler continued as acting governor until the Supreme Judicial Court ruled that the exercise of the office of Governor should devolve on the present President of the Senate.
  2. Following the Senate's acceptance of the report of the joint Select Committee on counting the gubernatorial votes, which declared that no candidate had received a majority, the President of the Senate, Vose, considered the office of Governor vacant and assumed the functions of the office.
  3. President of the Senate Kavanagh assumed the functions of governor following the resignation of Fairfield on 7 Mar 1843 and declared himself the holder of the office of governor by a proclamation issued on the same day. Kavanagh signed his resignation on 28 Dec 1843, to take effect on 1 Jan 1844; however, his letter was not delivered and read at a meeting of the Executive Council until 2 Jan 1844, at which point the Speaker of the House, Dunn, assumed the executive functions.
