  2. The capital of Akansas, Little Rock, was occupied by the armed forces of the United States on 10 Sep 1863. The seat of government was transferred to Washington, Southwestern Arkansas. Flanagan continued in office until the military defeat and surrender of the armies of Arkansas in May 1865.
