Navarre: Presidents of the Government: 1983-2026

Starting from 4 May 1984 the term of office of a President of the Government/Foral Communiy is deemed to commence on the day of the swearing-in ceremony, following the election by the Parliament of Navarre and appointment by a royal decree issued by command of the King of Spain.

  1. The Organic Law of 1982 provided for the election of a Presidente del Gobierno de Navarra o Diputación Foral. The style came into official use following the enactment of a foral law regulating the organzation of government in Navarre (effective on 5 May 1983). The same style was used in the royal decrees of appointment issued in 1984-2007.
  2. Del Burgo was dismissed from the office of President of the Foral Deputation on 28 Apr 1980 following his refusal to resign after criminal charges had been brought against him. He was acquitted and reinstated in office on 14 Jan 1984.
  3. Otano submitted his resignation on 18 Jun 1996 but continued in office in accordance with the law. The functions of President of the Government were provisionally exercised by Vice-President Juan Cruz Alli Aranguren.
  4. The style was introduced by an amendment to the Organic Law which came into offect on 17 Oct 2010.
