1 Jan 1962 the Constitution of the Independent State of Western Samoa is adopted by the Constitutional Convention on 28 Oct 1960, effective on 1 Jan 1962 [2]

4 Jul 1997 the name of the state is changed to the Independent State of Samoa in accordance with an act passed by the Legislative Assembly of Western Samoa (assented to on 4 Jul 1997) [3]

[1] Full title: An Act to make provision in connection with the attainment of independence by the people of Western Samoa (may be cited as the Western Samoa Act 1961).
[2] The Constitution came into force on the day approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations as the date of the termination of the Trusteeship Agreement for the Territory of Western Samoa approved by the General Assembly on 13 Dec 1946.
[3] Full title: An Act to Amend the Constitution (may be cited as the Constitution Amendment Act (No. 2) 1997).
