25 Jul 1990 the Constitution of the Sovereign Democratic Republic of Fiji is promulgated by a decree of the President of the Republic of 25 Jul 1990 and came into force on the same day (Fiji Gazette, No. 47, 25 Jul 1990) [4]
25 Jul 1990 - 26 Jul 1997 Sovereign Democratic Republic of Fiji
27 Jul 1997 the name of the state is changed to the Republic of the Fiji Islands in accordance with an act amending the Constitution passed by the Parliament (House of Representatives on 3 Jul 1997; Senate on 10 Jul 1997; assented to on 25 Jul 1997, effective on 27 Jul 1997) [5]

29 May 2000 the Constitution (as amended by the Constitution Amendment Act 1997) is abrogated in accordance with a decree of the Interim Military Government of 29 May 2000 [6]

1 Mar 2001 the Constitution (as amended by the Constitution Amendment Act 1997) is reinstated by a judgement of the Court of Appeal of 1 Mar 2001

10 Apr 2009 the Constitution (as amended by the Constitution Amendment Act 1997) is abrogated in accordance with a decree of the President of the Republic of 10 Apr 2009 (Fiji Gazette, No. 1, 10 Apr 2009, p. 1) [7]

7 Sep 2013 the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji is promulgated by a decree of the President of the Republic of 6 Sep 2013 and came into force on 7 Sep 2013 (Fiji Gazette, Extra, No. 80, 6 Sep 2013, pp. 2747-2840) [8]
