Arce temporarily ceased to exercise the functions of the President of the Republic and delegated his authority to Vice President Beltranena. When Arce sought to reassume the office, Beltranena refused. Arce remained nominally President of the Republic until the seizure of Guatemala City by the Allied Army (Ejército Aliado) under Francisco Morazán on 13 Apr 1829.
Upon the capitulation and occupation of Guatemala City by the Allied Army on 13 Apr 1829, Arce and Beltranena were imprisoned and subsequently exiled. The Federal Congress was reconvened and elected José Barrundia acting president.
The style was usually contracted to Presidente de la República Federal de Centroamérica in official use.
