6 Feb 1796 the people of the Territory of the United States South of the River Ohio form a free and independent state by the name of the State of Tennessee, in accordance with the Constitution adopted at the session of a Convention held at Knoxville on 6 Feb 1796 (Tennessee Convention 1796, p. 32) [1]

1 Jun 1796 the territory ceded to the United States by North Carolina is declared to be a state under the name of the State of Tennessee which is admitted to the United States, in accordance with an act passed by the Congress of the United States (Senate on 26 May 1796, House of Representatives on 30 May 1796 with amendments, Senate concurred in on 31 May 1796) and signed into law on 1 Jun 1796 (Statutes at Large, 1:491-492) [2]

24 Jun 1861 Tennessee seceded from the United States in accordance with the results of a vote of the people held on 8 Jun 1861, certified and declared by a proclamation issued by the Governor of the State of Tennessee of 24 Jun 1861 (Daily Nashville Patriot, No. 1704, 25 Jun 1861, p. 3)

25 Feb 1865 the Declaration of Independence and the ordinance of secession passed on 6 May 1861 are declared to have been null and void in accordance with the amendments to the Constitution of the State of Tennessee passed at the session of a Convention held in Nashville on 9 Jan 1865, approved by a vote of the people held on 22 Feb 1865, the results were certified and declared by a proclamation issued by the Military and Acting Governor of the State of Tennessee on 25 Feb 1865 (Nashville Daily Union, No. 278, 28 Feb 1865, p. 1)
24 Jul 1866 Tennessee is re-admitted to representation in the Congress of the United States in accordance with a resolution passed by the Congress of the United States (House of Representatives on 20 Jul 1866, Senate on 21 Jul 1866 with amendments, House concurred in Senate amendments on 23 Jul 1866), approved by the President of the United States on 24 Jul 1866 (Statutes at Large, 14:364)
