[1] Designated by the Constitution of Rhodesia of 1965 as the representative of Queen Elizabeth II in her capacity as the holder of executive powers. The Queen did not accept the legality of the existence of Rhodesia as a polity.
[2] The Constitution of 1969 provided for appointment of a "President in and over Rhodesia who shall be Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Rhodesia" (Art. 1), routinely referring to the office as "the President" in all other parts of the document.
