18 Apr 1980 Southern Rhodesia becomes an independent state under the name of Zimbabwe on a date (18 Apr 1980) appointed in the Zimbabwe Independence Order 1980 (made 19 Mar 1980), as prescribed by Section 1.1 of the Zimbabwe Act 1979 which was passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom (House of Commons 12 Dec 1979, House of Lords 17 Dec 1979) and received Royal Assent 20 Dec 1979 [1][2]
