United States: vacancy: 26 Oct 1774 - 10 May 1775 |

The First Continental Congress resolved that unless there was a redress of grievances, as set forth in the Declaration of Rights and the Association adopted on 14 Oct 1774, the Congress would meet again on 10 May 1775, in Philadelphia. Between these two dates the British colonies in North America did not have either permanent body or government representing their interests. As Great Britain had done nothing to redress the grievances set forth by the First Congress, the Second Continental Congress convened in Philadelphia on 10 May 1775 and soon became the highest state institution of the United Colonies. |
