[1] In the absence of explicit provisions in the Constitution of 1952, routinely referring to the office holder as Governor, the official use varies including Gobernador(a) del Estado Libre de Puerto Rico (Spanish) and Governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (English); Gobernador(a) de Puerto Rico (Spanish) and Governor of Puerto Rico (English).
[2] Spanish and English styles are equal in status except for the period between 5 Apr 1991 and 28 Jan 1993 when Spanish was the sole official language.
