30 Apr 1802 the inhabitants of the eastern division of the Territory Northwest of the River Ohio are authorized to form a constitution and state government and to assume a name for the future State, to be admitted to the United States when formed, in accordance with an act passed by the Congress of the United States (House of Representatives on 9 Apr 1802; Senate on 28 Apr 1802 with amendments, House concurred in on 29 Apr 1802) and signed into law on 30 Apr 1802 (Statutes at Large, 2:173-175) [1]

19 Feb 1803 the laws of the United States are extended to the State of Ohio in accordance with an act passed by the Congress of the United States (Senate on 7 Feb 1803, House of Representatives on 12 Feb 1803) and signed into law on 19 Feb 1803 (Statutes at Large, 2:201-202) [2][3]
  1. Full title: An Act to enable the people of the Eastern division of the territory northwest of the river Ohio to form a constitution and state government and for the admission of such state into the Union, on an equal footing with the original States, and for other purposes.
  2. Full title: An Act to provide for the due execution of the laws of the United States within the state of Ohio.
  3. The admission of Ohio to the United States upon adoption of the State constitution and the formation of the State government was provided for by an act of Congress of 30 Apr 1802. At the time, Congress did not pass a separate act recognizing the fact of admission. A joint resolution of Congress (House of Representatives on 19 May 1953; Senate on 1 Aug 1953) was approved by the President of the United States on 7 Aug 1953, retroactively confirming the admission as of 1 Mar 1803 (Statutes at Large, 67:407).
