[1] The offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor were declared vacant in accordance with Section 1 of An Ordinance Providing for Certain Amendments to the Constitution, passed by the Convention 30 Jul 1861 (Missouri State Convention Journal, July 1861, pp. 20-23; Missouri State Convention Journal, October 1861, Appendix, pp. 3-4). Jackson refused to recognise his removal from the office of Governor and continued in dissidence, administering the government on parts of the State of Missouri not occupied by the United States. He left Missouri in late 1861 and died in Little Rock, Arkansas, 7 Dec 1862.
