  1. Hull was commissioned as governor on 1 Mar 1805 and took the oath of office prior to his departure for Michigan. He arrived in Detroit on 1 Jul 1805. Following the siege by British armed forces, Hull signed the Articles of Capitulation there on 16 Aug 1812, was taken prisoner of war, and was later exchanged.
  2. Procter, who was left as senior military officer in Detroit, assumed the office of civil governor by a proclamation issued on 21 Aug 1812. His term as governor was effectively terminated following the capture of Detroit by the United States Army on 29 Sep 1813. A proclamation issued on the same day by the Commander-in-Chief of the 8th Military District, William Henry Harrison, authorized all civil officers of Michigan to resume their functions, but there is no evidence that Hull, who was awaiting trial on charges of treason, continued in office.
  3. Cass was commissioned as governor on 29 Oct 1813 and received his commission in Detriot on 2 Dec 1813.
  4. Cass resigned the office of governor in a letter to the Secretary of State dated 21 Jul 1831, which was received in Washington, D.C., on 3 Aug 1831. The resignation was intended to take effect on 1 Aug 1831, and Cass departed from Detroit on 30 Jul 1831, at which point the functions of governor devolved upon Secretary Mason.
  5. Porter was commissioned as governor on 6 Aug 1831. He arrived in Detroit on 17 Sep 1831 and immediately entered upon the duties of office.
  6. Horner was commissioned as Secretary of the Territory on 8 Sep 1835 and arrived in Detroit on 19 Sep 1835. He presented his commission and took the oath of office on 21 Sep 1835.
