19 Apr 1816 the inhabitants of the Indiana Territory are authorized to form a constitution and state government and to assume a name for the future State, to be admitted to the United States when formed, in accordance with an act passed by the Congress of the United States (House of Representatives on 30 Mar 1816; Senate on 13 Apr 1816 with amendments, House concurred in on 15 Apr 1816) and signed into law on 19 Apr 1816 (Statutes at Large, 3:289-291) [1]
