[1] The Constitution of 1776 provides for election of a branch of the Legislature that "shall be called The HOUSE of ASSEMBLY" (Art. 3), while Speaker of the Assembly is the style in official use.
[2] During the recess (10 Nov 1776 - 5 Jan 1777), a Council of Safety exercised executive functions.
