[1] The commissions issued for the appointment refer to the office as Governor in and over the Alabama Territory.
[2] The first commission issued by the President of the United States on 25 Sep 1817 was delivered to Bibb residing at Mallorysville, Wilkes County, Georgia, c. 16 Oct 1817. Bibb stayed in Georgia to early Dec 1817 and then travelled to St. Stephens, the seat of government of Alabama, arriving to this town and entering upon the duties of office on or before 12 Dec 1817 when his first proclamation was signed.
