9 Dec 1961 Tanganyika became an independent state on a date (9 Dec 1961) prescribed by Section 1 (1) of the Tanganyika Independence Act, 1961, which was passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom (House of Commons 10 Nov 1961, House of Lords 21 Nov 1961) and received Royal Assent 22 Nov 1961 [1]

26 Apr 1964 Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar Act, 1964, passed by the National Assembly of Tanganyika and signed into law on 25 Apr 1964, took effect on the day following the day of the later enactment (26 Apr 1964) in accordance with Art. 2 of the same act [4]
