[1] al-Azharī was elected for one-month term by the Supreme Council of State on 12 Jun 1965. After the passing of a Constitutional amendment by the Constituent Assembly (6 Jul 1965) providing for election of a permanent President of the Supreme Council of State, al-Azharī was elected to this office 8 Jul 1965.
