Catalonia: Presidents of the Generalitat: 1977-2017

The commencement of a term of President de la Generalitat de Catalunya is deemed to have started on the day of swearing-in which is preceded by election by the Parlament of Catalonia and royal decree appointing the office holder.

[1] Appointed by a royal decree of 17 Oct 1977 and took oath of office 24 Oct 1977.
[2] The order of succession in the office of President de la Generalitat was not regulated before the passing of a law of 24 Mar 1982 which stipulated that the President whose term ends with the election of a new Parlament continues in office to the day when his/her successor takes office. The office of President was not declared vacant, but the term of Tarradellas ended when a royal decree terminating his functions was signed on 28 Apr 1980. The swearing-in of Pujol, who had been elected by the Parlament 24 Apr 1980 and appointed by a royal decree of 28 Apr 1980, was delayed for a few days.
