[4] Santa Cruz was proclaimed Supremo Protector del Estado Nor-Peruano in accordance with an organic law passed 6 Aug 1836 by the assembly of North Peru held at Huaura (promulgated 11 Aug 1836). He arrived to Lima where he took oath of office 16 Aug 1836. His formal resignation (20 Feb 1839) followed actual disintegration of the polity.
