[1] Not recognised by the French "intervention" forces under General Élie-Frédéric Forey, who issued on 24 Sep 1862 a proclamation, in his self-defined character as General Commander-in-Chief, invested with full military and political authority, demanding that Almonte relinquish the style of Jefe Supremo de la Nación.
