Biography:

In the election held on 1 Sep 1828, in which the state legislatures voted for president, Manuel Gómez Pedraza received the most votes, but was challenged by partisans of Vicente Guerrero, supported by Antonio López de Santa Anna. Liberal revolts then broke out all over Mexico and the president elect was forced to split up his troop strength in order to deal with the liberal threat. Eventually, Pedraza fled the presidency on 3 Dec 1828. Congress nullified the votes for Gómez Pedraza and gave the presidency to Guerrero and vice presidency to Bustamante on 12 Jan 1829. In 1832 backed by the troops of Santa Anna, Gómez Pedraza, who spent four years in exile in the United States, returned to Mexico and had been proclaimed president by one state after another. The insurrection ended in concluding the Convenio de Zabaleta on 23 Dec 1832. It was signed by representatives of the Múzquiz government and by a group of generals on behalf of Gómez Pedraza recognizing the latter as president. Gómez was sworn in at Pueblo (26 Dec 1832) as constitutional president. He entered Mexico City on 3 Jan 1833, and served the last three months of the term to which he was elected in 1828. Though the elections in the state legislatures on 1 Sep 1832, gave Nicolás Bravo the presidency, the Convenio de Zabaleta annulled this elections. Gómez Pedraza announced new elections, which brought victory to Santa Anna and Gómez Farías as president and vice president respectively.
