| History: |
The members of the Regency, which acted as the supreme national authority in the expectation of acceptance of the imperial crown by King Fernando VII, were appointed by decision of the Provisional Junta of Government on 28 Sep 1821, and took the oath before the Junta on 29 Sep 1821. The Regency included Agustín de Iturbide as President and four members: Manuel de la Bárcena, José Isidro Yáñez, Manuel Velázquez de León and Juan O'Donojú. After O'Donojú died on 8 Oct 1821, Antonio Pérez Martínez y Robles was elected a new member (11 Oct 1821) and sworn in (13 Oct 1821). The Regency membership was renewed on 11 Apr 1822: Iturbide, Yáñez, conde de Casa de Heras Soto, Nicolás Bravo and Miguel Valentín y Tamayo. All except for the absent Valentín (took office on 22 Apr 1822) took the oath before the Congress on the same day. The Regency ceased to exist with the accession of Iturbide to the throne as Emperor of Mexico (21 May 1821). |
