History:

Creation of the first independent government on the territory of New Spain was announced by one of the leaders of insurgency against Spanish colonial authorities, Ignacio López Rayón, on 19 Aug 1811, in Zitácuaro, Michoacán and later decreed on 21 Aug 1811. The Junta was constituted of three persons including López as president and José María Liceaga and José Sixto Verduzco as members. José María Morelos y Pavón was co-opted as a member on 13 Jun 1812 and was officially notified by a letter from José María Liceaga dated 30 Jun 1812. The Junta was dissolved on 18 Sep 1813, according to the order of the Congress of Anáhuac in Chilpancingo, which entrusted José Morelos with executive power.
