| [1] | The establishment on 27 Dec 1806 of République d'Haïti almost immediately led to a de-facto partition of the country into the polity that evolved into the Royaume d'Haïti, centred in the North, on the one hand, and the République d'Haïti, centred in the South, on the other; each of the two entities claiming authority over the entire territory of the nation. The de-facto partition ended with the extinction of the Royaume d'Haïti on 8 Oct 1820 and the incorporation of its teritory into the République d'Haïti on 26 Oct 1820. |
