[1] Temple name, Shìzǔ (世祖), was bestowed (618) by his grandson, Yáng Dòng, but was not officially recognized.
[2] After the accession of Yáng Yòu, Yáng Guǎng was offered the honorific title of Tàishàng huáng (太上皇), but never accepted it.
[3] Acceded to the throne in Chang'an/Daxing (in dissidence).
[4] Abdicated and demoted to duke: Xīguó gōng (酅國公) [618].
[5] Suídì (隋帝) means a Sui emperor.
[6] Succeeded to the throne after the assassination of Yáng Guǎng (楊廣) in Jiangdu.
[7] After the news of the assassination of Yáng Guǎng (楊廣) reached the eastern capital of Sui, Luoyang/Dongjing, Yáng Dòng (楊侗) acceded to the throne. Old Book of Tang, ch. 1, dates the event to 21 Jun 618, Zīzhì Tòngjiàn, ch. 185, to 22 Jun 618.
[8] Old Book of Tang, ch. 1, recorded the usurpation of throne by Wáng Shìchōng (王世充) under 25 May 619. Zīzhì Tòngjiàn, ch. 187, dates the abdication of Yáng Dòng (楊侗) to 23 May 619 and the enthronement of Wáng Shìchōng to 25 May 619.
[9] Posthumous name, Gōng huángdì (恭皇帝), bestowed by the ruler of Zheng, was not officially recognized.
